Turkey's prime minister is in Iraq for talks and will also discuss his country's border raids against Kurdish rebels.
Iraqi Prime Mister Nouri al-Maliki says Recep Tayyip Erdogan's historical trip finds the two countries poised for a new era of cooperation and says they are making gains against terrorism.The will also sign a cooperation agreement.
Erdogan's visit Thursday comes a day after gunmen attacked a police post outside the U.S. consulate in Istanbul. Three police and three attackers died.
In February, Iraqi officials protested a Turkish cross-border ground offensive against Kurdish guerrillas.
