2 US soldiers charged in Iraqi detainee's death

The U.S. military says two American soldiers have been accused of killing an Iraqi detainee and lying about it.

A statement says Staff Sgt. Hal M. Warner and 1st Lt. Michael C. Behenna both face charges of premeditated murder, assault, making a false official statement and obstruction of justice.

It says Warner also faces a charge of accessory after the fact.

The military says detainee Ali Mansour Mohammed was initially believed to have been released from U.S. detention around May 16.

Saturday's announcement stresses that both men are presumed innocent.

An Article 32 hearing for Warner is to begin Aug. 15 at a U.S. base north of Baghdad. No date has been set for Behenna.
