Michael Young lifted a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 15th to give the AL a 4-3 triumph over the National League in baseball's All-Star Game. Justin Morneau led off the winning rally with a single before beating Corey Hart's throw to the plate to conclude the longest All-Star game ever.
With the victory, the American League improved to 11-0 and 1 tie in the last 12 All-Star games.
The AL trailed twice in regulation before pulling within 40-37-2 in the overall series. All-Star game MVP J.D. Drew knotted the score 2-2 with a two-run homer in the seventh, an inning before Evan Longoria's RBI double turned the game into a survival test.
Matt Holliday opened the scoring for the NL with a solo homer before Lance Berkman and Adrian Gonzalez added sac-flies.
Scott Kazmir worked a scoreless 15th to pick up the victory. Brad Lidge was the loser.
The game took four hours and 50 minutes shattering the record for the longest All-Star game ever. The 15 innings matches the game record set in 1967.
The game must have felt even longer for National League second baseman Dan Uggla, who set an All-Star record with three errors. Two of his miscues helped the American League load the bases with nobody out in the 10th inning. Ryan Dempster bailed out Uggla by getting three straight groundball outs to extend the game.
